Playback Controls
The Playback Screen gives you detailed control over how each sample sounds. These controls affect the currently loaded sample and are saved per-session.
Volume
Master output level for the sampler. Use this to balance aerial's output against other tracks in your session. This controls the final output stage after all other processing.
ADSR Envelope
Four vertical sliders control the amplitude envelope applied to every note:
- Attack (0 - 5s) — Time for the sound to reach full volume after a note is triggered.
- Decay (0 - 5s) — Time for the sound to fall from full volume to the sustain level.
- Sustain (0 - 100%) — Volume level held while the note is held, after the decay phase completes.
- Release (0 - 10s) — Time for the sound to fade to silence after the note is released.
The envelope is applied to the amplitude of the signal. Short attack and release values work well for percussive sounds, while longer values create pads and swells.
Sample Start / End
Set the playback region within the loaded sample. Adjusting sample start trims the beginning of the file, and sample end trims the tail. Both are displayed directly on the waveform view as draggable markers. Use these to remove silence, clicks, or unwanted portions of a sample.
Loop Start / End
Define the loop region within the sample. These markers are only active when Loop is enabled (double click). Adjust them on the waveform view to set a seamless repeating section.
Reverse Toggle
Plays the sample backwards. When Reverse is active, the sample start becomes the end and vice versa. Loop and sample start/end markers are also reversed, so your configured regions still apply in the expected way. Combine with long attack times for reverse swells.
Filter
Low pass and High pass. Adjustable from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Fine Tune
Adjusts the pitch of the sample in cents, from -50 to +50. Use Fine Tune to correct samples that are slightly out of tune.
Transpose
From -24 to +24, used primarily to correct samples that are playing in the wrong octave, but also to transpose to different keys if you want to do it that way. (I'd recommend doing that at the DAW level though)
Pitch Bend
Sets the MIDI pitch bend range in semitones.
Glide Toggle + Time
When Glide is enabled, notes smoothly slide (portamento) between pitches instead of jumping instantly. The Glide Time control sets how long the pitch transition takes. Short glide times create quick slides between notes, while longer times produce slow, expressive portamento. Glide applies to legato playing, where a new note is triggered while the previous note is still held.
